I have planted some vegetables in the garden – lettuce, cherry tomatoes, basil and a strawberry plant, and then replanted the spring onions and standard onions I planted last year to give them more space (they clung on through winter but did not grow into edible sizes, mainly I think as I planted them too close together and too late in the season). I have since been pottering about watering them and last weekend I gave them some liquid seaweed fertiliser.
Julian was very interested in the proceedings, since I was out in the garden with buckets and doing things that don’t normally happen. He skittered off when I turned the tap on to fill the bucket (strange noises!) but came back to investigate once it was full of water and fertiliser, and I had to dissuade him from drinking it. That was sadly not the end of my troubles as later I accidentally watered his tail when he wandered past the pot plant I was watering and waved his tail carelessly into the path of the watering can. I was all, no, Julian, you do not need help in growing!
Mostly the vegetables are doing well, although the transplanted spring onions are struggling a little, one lettuce plant has entirely vanished (it was pretty small and is now entirely gone, so I wonder if something uprooted it) and the snails have completely eaten all the leaves on my basil! Bad snails! *fends them off with a tiny chair* My lettuce has also been lightly nommed, but otherwise seems ok.
