Worming Jules

dzurladyToday I helped Mum worm Jules. (We knew he needed worming as a) he was suddenly very hungry and b) he ate whatever we fed him instead of his normal picky and inconsistent approach to food.) To do this we weighed him, and he is 8.4kg!
(I am going to digress here for people who have not seen Jules. Jules is 8.4kg because he is taller and longer than most cats, but he is in proportion.

Still, I did not realised he was 8.4kg. Periodically I meet other people's cats and am surprised by how small they are. This is especially amusing as our previous cat was quite small, and people used to say how small she was. Also she was very elegant and Jules is... not.)
Anyway, back to the worming. It did not go entirely smoothly! Mum accidentally sprayed the first tube all down my side, onto my Heart hoodie and jeans (Mum wants it noted that it was also all over a) the bench b) the floor c) herself d) my shoe...) because it turns out it was spring loaded! After some minor drama when we thought it wouldn't come out it was all good and nothing was permanently stained. Then it came to actually getting the worming paste where it was supposed to go, ie the cat. This went much more smoothly due mostly to the surprisingly affable approach of Jules and the spring loading of the tube (which when deployed as intended works quite well).
I was in charge of holding Jules down and I was not very effective at this. There was a lot of manhandling and at one stage Jules walked away and I had to go and retrieve him - I am surprised he didn't just run for it. It is a credit to him that he didn't bite or scratch us because he had ample opportunity. Fortunately finally I held him while Mum shoved the tube into his mouth and dispensed it, and the spring loading catapulted it down his throat before he (or we!) really knew what was happening.
Achievement unlocked:
Wormed the cat.
