All commuters for themselves!
Jul. 7th, 2011 10:37 pmMy commute to work this morning was very strange. I was going to get to work a little early but instead when I got to the carpark it was full of cars (not normal that early anyway, but especially not given that now school holidays have started the carpark is noticeably emptier most mornings) and there was a bus spilling passengers who had embraced their inner lemming all over the road.
So I missed the first train I was going to catch, and went and parked in the possibly even larger and definitely less well known carpark over the other side of the freeway, which had buckets of parking (it is a longer walk to the station and for me at least a further drive, which is why it is less popular) and walked over to my normal side of the station.
There was a sign saying ‘all Melbourne trains depart platform 2’ and then a huge bunch of people standing around a bored looking guy in a fluro vest, presumably waiting for a bus. I was all, hmmm, and then went over to check out platform 2 where there was a mostly empty Flinders Street bound train, so I hoped on. It was meant to depart at 8.46. At about 8.44, a bus pulled up over near platform one and disgorged a number of passengers who wanted to go to the city, and as they were walking across the pedestrian bridge towards the train the time ticked over to 8.46 and the train closed its doors and left, still mostly empty. *facepalm*
